Irish Person of the Year 2013 Cynthia McDonald

cynthia-mcdonald-ipoy-2013Cynthia McDonald was born in Minneapolis in 1961 to Robert and Betty Tombers. Cynthia’s great- grandparents on her mother’s side came to the US in the late 1800’s from Norway and her great-grandparents on her father’s side came to the US at approximately the same time from Germany. She grew up in the same house in Brooklyn Center, a northern suburb of Minneapolis, where she attended Fourth Baptist Christian School from 4th to 11th grade and then attended Pillsbury Baptist Bible College in Owatonna, MN for her freshman year while also earning her diploma from the high school at the same time. She attended the University of Minnesota with a major in accounting.

Cynthia moved to Dallas in 1987 where she met Tim McDonald. They were married in 1989 and have 3 children. Timothy Francis Xavier, born in 1992, is a junior at University of Texas, Dallas with a major in Business Administration and a minor in Entrepreneurialism. Rebecca Elizabeth, born in 1994, is a senior at John Paul II High School in Plano, TX and has been involved in the Texas Rose of Tralee since being a Rosebud for the first time at age 4. She has served on the committee and assisted with functions and fundraising for the past several years. Christopher Patrick, born in 1999, is a 7th grader at Otto Middle School in Richardson, TX.

Cynthia is the CFO/COO of Infassure, a Richardson based IT company, founded in 1985 by her husband Tim McDonald. She has worked with Tim since 1987. She also works with her son Timothy in his business Wataphoto, founded in 2009 by her husband Tim. Cynthia also is majority owner in an office relocation company, Moveassure, founded in 2011.

Cynthia and Tim attended St Rita in Dallas until moving to Richardson where they moved parishes to St Mark Catholic in Plano. She became the Jr High Youth Minister from 2005-2007 where she directed youth events in order to bring children to the church for their recreation time and to get them involved in service and leadership.

Managing events came at an early age when she assisted her mother with various golf tournaments and church functions. Upon meeting Tim the involvement continued by joining The 500, Inc., a Dallas based arts organization, where they chaired Artfest 1996 at Fair Park and were on the Board as board members for 5 years. She has also served on the board of TACA. They have also served on several committees such as St Vincent de Paul Society out of St Mark’s Catholic Church and created the annual Taste of Hope which raises funds for the society. She also manages the annual Angel Tree at St Mark’s which collects from 700-1100 gifts annually and distributes them to families throughout the Metroplex.

Cynthia and Tim came upon the Irish American Society at the North Texas Irish Fest in 1998 and served on the auction committee at their first IAS Ball. They then served on the board for 2 years and became Presidents in 2001. Cynthia has been active in many events throughout the years for the IAS. Tim and Cynthia also served on the board of the Downtown Dallas St Patrick’s Parade and became Presidents and Directors of the parade for 5 years. Cynthia has served on the Texas Rose of Tralee committee many times over the last 14 years, assisting with Rosebuds, fundraising, and hosting events.
