Happy Thanksgiving

ias_dallas_skyline_logo2 customized logoDear IAS Members
It is that time of year again, when we come together with family, and friends, to celebrate this unique American tradition called “Thanksgiving.”
This year is very special for me as it falls on November  23rd, the date I arrived on these shores many, many moons ago!  I shall be adding a little extra to the table prayer of thanks, and gratitude!
So, on behalf of  your Dallas Irish American Society Board, we wish you a very safe, and happy Thanksgiving,
God Bless America.
Phyllis Wells
As a footnote, the deadline to RSVP for the Christmas Party has been extended to November 26.

Northern Ireland Peace Process with Senator George Mitchell

The Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs, the Consulate General of Ireland in Austin and the British Consulate General in Houston are honored to welcome Senator George Mitchell to Austin to speak about his role in the Northern Ireland Peace Process on the 20th anniversary of the signature of the Good Friday Agreement in 1998. Senator Mitchell’s remarks will be followed by a Q&A session. The lecture is part of the LBJ School Dean’s Distinguished Leaders Series.

Please note that entry to the event is free but due to limited capacity pre-registration is essential.  You can register at

Senator George Mitchell has had a long and distinguished career. He served for several years as Chairman of DLA Piper, now Chairman Emeritus. Before that he served as a federal judge; as Majority Leader of the United States Senate; as Chairman of peace negotiations in Northern Ireland which resulted in an agreement that ended an historic conflict; and most recently as U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East. In 2008 Time Magazine described him as one of the 100 most influential people in the world. Senator Mitchell is the author of five books. His most recent books are a memoir entitled The Negotiator: Reflections on an American Life, published in May 2015 and A Path to Peace, published in November 2016.

November 6, Tuesday at 12:00 BOOK CLUB

Let’s all meet at Trinity Hall at Mockingbird Station on Tuesday, November 6.

The November book is “With all my Love” by Patricia Scanlan.  A little homework for November — reflect on your life.  Is there an important decision you made that had a great influence on your children, your work career, etc.  If you had done things differently, what different outcome could you foresee?
Looking forward to a lively discussion on Nov 6 at Trinity Hall.  Noon for meal and friendship; 12:30 for book report.
