Daniel Mulhall took his position as Ireland’s 18th Ambassador to the United States in August 2017. As the former Ambassador of Ireland to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Mulhall is one of the leading authorities on issues surrounding Brexit and its impact on the border between Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Ambassador Mulhall will discuss the importance of the developing trade relationship between Texas and Ireland. The opening of an Irish Consulate in Texas in 2015 and a recent visit of the Prime Minister to Texas, which included a stop in Dallas, have strengthened this relationship, along with the much-anticipated direct flights between DFW and Dublin beginning in the summer of 2019.
Having held roles as the Irish Ambassador to the UK and Germany prior to his current position in the United States, Ambassador Mulhall has engaged with Queen Elizabeth II and Chancellor Angela Merkel as well as President Trump. He is also an accomplished writer and published “New Day Dawning: A Portrait of Ireland in 1900” in 1999, and co-edited “Modern Ireland: A Centenary Assessment,” in 2016.
Ambassador Mulhall is renowned for his unique and innovative approaches to diplomacy, such as communicating his work through social media, and is familiar with the major economic, social and demographic changes that Ireland has recently experienced, as well as the impacts these changes will likely have on Irish domestic and foreign policy in the future.
Join us on Thursday, November 1, when Ambassador Mulhall will be joined by Dallas lawyer Tom Melsheimer of Winston & Strawn for a lively fireside chat discussing a variety of topics including the developing trade relationship between Texas and Ireland, Brexit, the European Union, and more.
Mr Mulhall will aslo be interviewed on THINK on PBS/KERA radio @ 1pm
